Fire Belly Newts make great pets, they are easy to care for, don't cost much money and they are pretty unusual and cute!

Before you buy some of the newts (which can live together just fine) make sure you have an aquarium set up properly. You can use a glass or plastic aquarium. Our small plastic aquariums are perfect because they stop the newts from escaping.

The aquarium must only be a maximum of 6 inches deep and you must provide a land area or something for the newts to climb out onto. You can add plants (plastic or real) and stones. A rock or two will be great so the newt can get out of the water and rest.

Also before you buy your newts, you need to know how to feed them. If you are lucky then your newt will eat freeze dried tubifex works, blood worms or even sinking fish food pellets! Sometimes though your newt can be fussy and demand fresh squidgy food and even small insects (such as crickets and flies). Our Fire Belly Newts mostly feed on small feeder Guppy fish just fine.
